The Fondazione Lisio work group has been working hard on numerous, very varied activities which have, unfortunately, forced us to postpone the issue of our six-monthly publication.
To get back on track with the regular publication schedule, we have merged two issues together. The content is, therefore, quite extensive and opens with a feature on the study of the trousseau of Lucrezia Borgia, wife of Alfonso I d'Este, thanks to the Inventory of the wardrobe compiled between 1502 and 1503.
The theme of clothing, is continued with two articles dedicated to Giacomo Borlone, who painted sacred and secular-themed works in Valseriana. We then move on from art and fashion to the origin of silk with a scientific overview of the variations in this important textile fibre.
Two areas of the Lisio Foundation, weaving and tailoring, were involved in a challenging project to renovate the costume of the Captain of the People from Orvieto’s Historical Procession, reweaving the “Lorenzetti” lampas and sewing the costume based on the model of the original. Two other restoration projects followed - the first on a processional banner and the second on a “succo d’erba” painted tapestry - while a short feature presents Lorena Giannini, a Turin-based fashion designer. This double issue closes with an article in memory of Flavia Fiori, the academic from Oleggio, who passed away last year and dedicated her life to researching and promoting interest in the textile heritage of the Novara area.
